  9. Jill Brower says:

My adorable, sweet Teddy Bear, named Chip, just turned one on December 20. Our family loves him dearly. Around the time he turned on – about a week before Christmas, he did somethat that is incredibly out of character! My young son had gotten a large tootsie roll from a teacher and decided he didn’t like it. He’s little and decided to throw it in a box of toys (instead of the trash… ugh!!) Anyway, Chip (the dog) found it and was trying to get it out. The second I went to reach for this tootsie roll, Chip snarled, growled and came aggressively toward me. I know that if I had not gotten away that quick, he would have bitten me. I was shocked!!! This sweet little guy snuggles closely with me every night and is never more than a few feet from me. I have taken things out his mouth several times in the past without even a hint of this type of behavior! Since then it has happened a few more times, espcially with candy (it seems to be everywhere at Christmastime!), but now he will even start licking dirty silverware or dishes in the dishwasher and he becomes very defensive and aggressive when you try to move him away. He has bitten my 17 year old son twice. What could have triggered this change?? I have not changed his food before this started happening or anything. I moved him off puppy to adult food after this started, thinking he needed adult nutrition now that he was one year old. Any ideas on what might help or what we can do to stop this??

    1. puppymaster says:

      Hi Jill,
Apologies for taking so long to reply. Your case is not isolated so I wanted to enlist some different views on what other training you can offer to help Chip beat his aggressive streak. I’ve posted a new article which should be of interest if you are still experiencing the same behaviour: http://teddybearpuppydogs.com/food-guarding-how-to-train-your-dog-to-share-its-meal/

  10. Lawrencia Freeman says:

Hi Lawrencia, please take a read of this article to help give you an idea about costs. You are looking at around $3,000 in the puppy’s first year:
The Real cost of dog ownership.

I have waited a very long time for a dog to become a part of our family.
From my research it doesn’t seem there are any breeders close to our geographic area. We live in a small suburb outside Philadelphia Pa.
We would be willing to travel to Ohio where there seems to be a legitimate breeder.

  21. Connie Earhart says:

I looking for a female, small dog puppy. Would like one with several colors. Thanks

    1. puppymaster says:

Hi Connie, perhaps a Poochon would suit you? They are very smart dogs too – http://teddybearpuppydogs.com/teddy-bear-puppy-breeds/

  22. My reasons are founded. I had 4 poodles from the time they were pups. They all have passed except the last one. Had them all at the same time, they were from the same breeder. The oldest we had since 1999, and we had to put her down last year, she had lost her sight and hearing. One lost his teeth and developed a melanoma so we put him down. Our dogs could talk to us. The smallest developed a liver problem and was too small, 3 lbs, to recover. The last one wil be 15 this year. He has lost his teeth and beginning of cataracts. Using meds for that. Poodles tend to lose their sight and teeth late in life. So we will be looking for another puppy. Not immediately.

    1. puppymaster says:

It’s definitely a sad time for your family when your pooches get older and start to go blind and lose their teeth. However they still know where their home is and have just as much love for you as they ever did. Best of luck with a new puppy when you are ready to take that step.

  26. Sue Brenner says:

I currently have a five year old Shih Tzu. She lost her best friend about 18 months ago. I have been looking for a new best friend for her. Last weekend my son, who lives in Minnesota, sent me a picture of his new roommate. Max is a 10 week old Teddy Bear puppy. I had never heard of these cuties. So began my search. I live in New Mexico and I can’t find any puppies here or in CO. Can you help me locate a breeder in either state? My little one is so lonely and sleeps all day. I really need to find her a companion.

    1. puppymaster says:

Hi Sue, I’m very sorry to hear about your loss. How about you head to Spirit Mesa Toys in Albuquerque – they have some new Maltipoo puppies from the looks of it (Maltese cross poodle)!

  36. Sadie Ripley says:

My husband and I and 3 boys are in search of a teddy bear puppy (sichon, Zuchon). We have waited until now to look for a puppy as our boys are finally ready. We live in Grand Forks, North Dakota. We have tried a couple times to get in the waiting list for a batch of puppies in South Dakota but we haven’t had any luck. We would ideally be interested in a male puppy, who is exceptionally well with our children. Our oldest boy has some developmental delays and the puppy is ideally being sought after as a long-term companion for him. He is afraid of jumpy dogs but adores mild-mannered dogs who want to play fetch, go on walks, and snuggle. I am allergic to most dogs that shed so we have been very particular about the breed of dog.

I would like a teddy bear dog.

  73. Carla Modlin says:

I was curious and Googled around and found your page and I want to take a moment to thank you for all of this wonderful information, pictures and videos. It is so nice that you took the time to put this together for the General Public. I have really found it very helpful. Thank you so much. I recently acquired a poodle from a friend who could no longer care for him. I am familiar with dogs in general because I’ve always owned one my whole life but I realize poodles are a bit different and require certain things. I am new to grooming and all of that sort of stuff LOL. My poodle’s name is toot toot and he is so precious. He is chocolate colored and I just gave him a bath last night and I do not know how to go about grooming him I wish there was a place I could put in a picture. Thank you for all of your help and all of this wonderful information it was most helpful.

    1. puppymaster says:

Hi Carla, that’s so nice of you to say! I always love nice feedback, that’s really kind 🙂
I’d love for you to send through a pic of your chocolate-colored Toot toot. Please do so to teddybearpuppydogs (at) gmail.com and we can post it up for everyone to enjoy!

We lost our beloved “Meesha”, teddy bear dog in January and are looking for another one as sweet as she was. Life has not been the same without her. We are not wealthy and therefore cannot spend thousands to get one, but there will never be a more loving home than one we can provide!

  79. Alicia Givens says:

Alicia says: My grandchild will be moving in a month and I will find myself alone, I’m sixty two yrs old and if anyone can show a little compassion and have a teddy bear dog they would like to find a loving home, I’m that person will give he or she a loving home.

  80. Denise says:

Hi. I live in Minnesota and looking for bichon frise. Any breeders North Country? Live on a lake with lots of space to roam. What a smuggler who plays well with other dogs

    1. puppymaster says:

Hi Denise, why don’t you try http://www.4puppypaws.com/

  81. E. Ipswich says:

Do you have a good vet? Our Pom lived to be a few months past 17 and there are genetic illnesses such as collapsed trachea, luxating patella, pancreatitis, to name a few.
    3-8k per surgery.
The tiny ones, mixed breed simply to look a particular way often bring out the flaws. There are many
tiny dogs at the humane society because the owner could not afford the 5k surgery for the dogs
Before you buy just for looks, go to some AKC dog shows and talk to multiple breeders.

  82. Kathy cughlin says:

I am in search of a mini or tea cup teddy bear puppy. Do you know of a rescue or breeder in the New England area?? I am having no luck. Can’t wait!!!

  85. Christal Dillard says:

I’m looking for a rescue teddy bear because I recently fought cancer that spread to my bones. I think a rescue is a better option for me because there’s better chance that the dog is already house-trained which would be hard on me physically. What are your thoughts and is there a rescue in the Atlanta area that takes in teddy’s?

    1. puppymaster says:

Hi Christal, what a strong person you must be! You can try http://shadyacrekennels.com/ who are located in Georgia. They may have rescues, or could direct you to somewhere there that does. All the best

  86. joey su says:

  99. Casey says:

How much do you want I can go for 200$ so tell me how much you want thank you

  100. Barbara says:

Are these teacup teddy bear pups known as “hypo allergenic”?

    1. puppymaster says:

Hi Barbara, for the most part, yes. However no dogs are truly hypo-allergenic. I would suggest heading to your local pound/pet rescue or breeder and see how you fare with the pups they have there as some people are ultra sensitive regardless of the dog’s coat.

  101. karen kolbe says:

I am looking to rescue a small dog. Would love a Teddy Bear but will consider other types. Need to stay small so it can travel with me and my husband. I want to rescue rather than buy to help homeless dogs.

    1. puppymaster says:

Hi Karen, that’s great of you. There are too many homeless dogs out there that need just your kind of help. Where are you located and we can point you in the right direction?

  102. Barbara Beechy says:

I would love to rescue a teddy bear.. I am retired and we own our home. We so.travel.from Az to Indiana in May as we are snowbirds. Would like a male.

    1. puppymaster says:

Hi Barbara, you two sound perfect for adopting a rescue pup! Try http://www.waldosmuttleycrew.org – I saw a couple of very cute shih tzu’s there (yes, you’d ideally need to adopt both of them) called Bristol & Berkeley. Good luck!

  103. Alicia DeSantis says:

I have done my research, I would like to buy a tea cup teddy bear. A female preferably. I have had a bad experience with a breeder I found online in the past. We bought a pure bred English bull, and he was from a puppy mill. We didn’t know that of course, but he was crazy and we had to give him to a friend after 2 years of trying. I don’t want that to happen again. How do I find a reputable breeder within driving distance, so that I can be sure they are good dogs from a good person? I see sites online, but I don’t know how to be certain they are good breeders. Thank you for helping me find my perfect forever friend. My daughter and I can’t wait to meet her (or him)

    1. puppymaster says:

Hi Alicia, I’m so sorry to hear about your past experience. What an awful situation you were in. Make sure you do your homework on breeders and read as many reviews as possible. As you say, ideally visit the breeder so you can check they are legit. Please let me know where you are located and I’ll see if we can recommend a breeder.

  104. Theresa Rivault says:

I am looking for a teddy bear puppy to buy. I have one but she has Cushing disease. I can only handle a small weight and size puppy because of health. Can you please help me. We love our Mazzie.

    1. puppymaster says:

Hi Theresa, that’s a sad story. It’s so hard as they are just so much a part of the family aren’t they. We can try to help of course. What type of teddy bear dog are you after and where are you located?

  105. Charla Britt says:

Hi, We are a family with two girls (age 11 and 6) who are very gentle with animals. We have been considering dogs for several years and are ready to take the plunge as the girls are old enough and my husband has recently retired. We are interested in a young adult rescue with a mixed teddy bear-type dog that would be good with children and other dogs. We have visited the local SPCA and other local rescues (Peace of Mind and Animal Friends Rescue). We live in Monterey, CA. Please advise where we should look and/or the best strategy for doing so… Thank you! Charla

Hi Charla, that’s great that you are ready to take the plunge with a new member to your family! You certainly won’t regret it. Also, it sounds like you’ve done your research and you know what you want, but importantly, you are not being too picky. When it comes to rescue dogs, honestly, the best approach is to go to the rescue with an open mind. You and your new found pooch will likely form a connection there and then, and it may just surprise you!
In terms of local rescues, how about the Salinas Animal Shelter? Perhaps “Parker” there is your new friend 🙂 Best of luck.

  108. Jill says:

I have found my own ” teddy bear” looking companions via humane society. The first being schnauzer cross with bichon. Exceptional guy. Adoption fee under 90.00. It took months of watching web posting. He DOES have an allergy to chicken…now an 8 week old cross with toy poodle, papillon, and schi zu. Adopted her for 25.00. I think good start to speak with breeders, but huge fan of patience and adoption.

    1. admin says:

I totally agree Jill! Patience always wins out – so happy to hear it worked out for you and you found your special little guy.

We are currently looking for a dog and these dogs are adorable, and from what I’ve read appear to be a healthy breed. We are retired and interested in a small dog. We know someone who has a Teddy Bear and loves it. Please let me know more about your dogs, breeder info; costs etc. as we are interested in a female. Are these dogs easily house trained.

    Thank you

    1. admin says:

Hi Jo, thanks for your enquiry. We don’t sell the pups, we are just an info site only. The dogs will require some work training them but will be worth it in the long run. Please check our ‘Find a Dog’ page to find a breeder near you.

  115. Valerie says:

These dogs Gifs are so cute, my favorites are the dog stuck in the toilet, and the dog who jumps onto the teddy bears lap.
