How to Know Which Foods are Safe for Dogs?

June 21, 2022

Your pet’s safety should be a primary concern as its owner. We sometimes love our pets too much that we share almost everything with them. But sometimes there are foods that we can eat as humans but are dangerous or toxic for our four-legged companions. Knowing which are those things can mean life and death for our pets so if you’re a first-time pet owner, you should be responsible enough to get an education on their nutrition.

Foods That are Good for Your Dogs

Nutrition is important as we just don’t want to give our pets they’re favorite food. Just like us, it is important to give them balanced nutrition in order to make them healthy, active, and happy. Too much chemical content is not good for our pets, it’s like having a steady diet of canned or processed food. Giving them healthy, Good Doggy Treats will not only provide them sustenance it also assures you that you’re giving them the best. Some dogs may be picky eaters and giving them only grain food won’t give them the necessary nutrition, so giving them treats rich in macronutrients will help solve the deficiency your pet may suffer. Here are some of the foods that you should consider giving your dogs:

1. Carrots

These are healthy dog food which can also help with their dental health by removing plaque when chewing. They are a good source of vitamin A which is good for their immunity, skin, coat, and eyes. The right ration of carrots is good for them.

2. Cooked Rice

This is a good option, especially if they have an upset stomach. The fiber helps in binding the stool and they’re also easy to digest.

3. Peanut Butter

Unsalted and unsweetened peanut butter is a good source of vitamins E and B, as well as protein and niacin. Moderate amounts of butter will be good for them.

4. Meat

Fish, chicken, turkey, and pork are good sources of protein and other macronutrients. Make sure they are unseasoned and are cooked properly. Parasites and bacteria from raw meat may damage their digestive tract and may cause serious problems.

5. Watermelon

This is good for keeping your dog hydrated, especially on hot days. They are safe for the dog, just make sure you remove the seeds.

Foods that are Dangerous for Dogs

These are the foods the food should not eat not because it will make them unhealthy and fat, but because they are not inherently safe for them:

1. Sweets with Xylitol

Xylitol is often found in sweets like candy, gum, or even in other processed foods. They are toxic to your dog and may cause liver damage.

2. Avocado (Leaves, Bark, and Seed)

The avocado fruit may contain persin which is toxic to the dog. If you have an avocado plant, make sure you keep the dog away from it because persin is abundant in its leaves and bark.

3. Garlic and Onions

These foods contain Organosulfoxides which are dangerous for your dogs. These can lead to diarrhea, vomiting, stomach problems, and anemia.

4. Grapes and Raisins

These foods can cause kidney failure, even in small amounts and may even cause death. Also, foods derived from grapes like fruit cakes are also as dangerous.

5. Chocolate

This is fairly common knowledge, chocolates are toxic to your dog and should be avoided at all times. Dark chocolate and unsweetened baking soda may cause problems in the heart, seizures, and death. Our pets are part of our family, and we must make our home and lifestyle safe for every member. Organic foods are best because of the less processing and chemical components it took to make them. Aside from food, we must also make time to play and give our dogs time to exercise and enjoy being themselves. We are responsible for every life around us, more so for our pets who we chose to live with us for the rest of their lives.

Love teacups…I am a first time owner. Thinking mix of maltese and shitzu…but not sure what to look for to make sure it is in good health. A breeder contacted me and had what I am looking for…but she said it was the runt…and will be tiny.

Your website impressed me…please contact me. How much too…curious on price.
