4 Holiday grooming tips for your pooch

December 14, 2018

The holiday season is fast approaching and this time, not only do you have to plan out the activities you are going to do, but you will also need to make sure that your dog is ready for the season. It isn’t just about making your pooch presentable for picture taking, but to also keep them in their best state of mind for the holiday activities. It is important that all members of your family – even your furry family – are looking their best. You have a lot of options for dog grooming in new jersey so this won’t be a problem for you even when it is nearing the holidays.

Here are 4 holiday grooming tips for your pooch.

1. Comb your dog’s fur every day.

In order to constantly remove dirt, debris, and loose fur, brush your dog’s fur every day. This will keep your dog’s fur untangled. This will also make your pooch’s coat shiny as it encourages the distribution of natural oils in their bodies. Before they go to their next grooming appointment, their furs are smoother and the groomer will definitely not have a hard time doing their work. Combing your dog’s fur daily will also keep it healthy.

2. Use the right shampoo.

When it comes to bathing your dogs, it is important that you look for the right shampoo for them. Just like us, your dogs will also need something that will not just clean them, but also keep them comfortable. It should be gentle so as not to cause any harm. At the same time, it should not have any drying properties that can potentially affect your dog’s coat. Avoid using human shampoo to your dog as they are designed for them. It would be best if you look for a good shampoo that is fit for them.

3. Clean their ears every month to avoid any infection.

In order to prevent any infection, it would be best to clean your dog’s ears at least every month. However, if you have a dog that has long ears that covers their ear canal, it needs a more frequent cleaning. You need to avoid any buildup of bacteria or wax in their ears as it can lead to infection. Make sure to do it gently so as not to cause any inflammation in their ear canal. You want your dog to be clean and in top condition before the holidays.

4. Trim your dog’s nails.

Long toenails can actually cause a lot of pain for your dog. So to make sure that they don’t suffer from it, have their nails trimmed regularly. Dogs are naturally scared to go through nail trimming and if they feel threatened, they might scratch or bite you. So in order to avoid that, do a gradual adjustment so they won’t feel any fear at all. If you are not confident to do it yourself, make sure to go to a groomer so they can take care of your dog and keep their nails short.

Love teacups…I am a first time owner. Thinking mix of maltese and shitzu…but not sure what to look for to make sure it is in good health. A breeder contacted me and had what I am looking for…but she said it was the runt…and will be tiny.

Your website impressed me…please contact me. How much too…curious on price.
