My adorable, sweet Teddy Bear, named Chip, just turned one on December 20. Our family loves him dearly. Around the time he turned on – about a week before Christmas, he did somethat that is incredibly out of character! My young son had gotten a large tootsie roll from a teacher and decided he didn’t like it. He’s little and decided to throw it in a box of toys (instead of the trash… ugh!!) Anyway, Chip (the dog) found it and was trying to get it out. The second I went to reach for this tootsie roll, Chip snarled, growled and came aggressively toward me. I know that if I had not gotten away that quick, he would have bitten me. I was shocked!!! This sweet little guy snuggles closely with me every night and is never more than a few feet from me. I have taken things out his mouth several times in the past without even a hint of this type of behavior! Since then it has happened a few more times, espcially with candy (it seems to be everywhere at Christmastime!), but now he will even start licking dirty silverware or dishes in the dishwasher and he becomes very defensive and aggressive when you try to move him away. He has bitten my 17 year old son twice. What could have triggered this change?? I have not changed his food before this started happening or anything. I moved him off puppy to adult food after this started, thinking he needed adult nutrition now that he was one year old. Any ideas on what might help or what we can do to stop this??

My reasons are founded. I had 4 poodles from the time they were pups. They all have passed except the last one. Had them all at the same time, they were from the same breeder. The oldest we had since 1999, and we had to put her down last year, she had lost her sight and hearing. One lost his teeth and developed a melanoma so we put him down. Our dogs could talk to us. The smallest developed a liver problem and was too small, 3 lbs, to recover. The last one wil be 15 this year. He has lost his teeth and beginning of cataracts. Using meds for that. Poodles tend to lose their sight and teeth late in life. So we will be looking for another puppy. Not immediately.
It’s definitely a sad time for your family when your pooches get older and start to go blind and lose their teeth. However they still know where their home is and have just as much love for you as they ever did. Best of luck with a new puppy when you are ready to take that step.

My husband and I and 3 boys are in search of a teddy bear puppy (sichon, Zuchon). We have waited until now to look for a puppy as our boys are finally ready. We live in Grand Forks, North Dakota. We have tried a couple times to get in the waiting list for a batch of puppies in South Dakota but we haven’t had any luck. We would ideally be interested in a male puppy, who is exceptionally well with our children. Our oldest boy has some developmental delays and the puppy is ideally being sought after as a long-term companion for him. He is afraid of jumpy dogs but adores mild-mannered dogs who want to play fetch, go on walks, and snuggle. I am allergic to most dogs that shed so we have been very particular about the breed of dog.

I would take a look at a Shih Tzu. They are hybrids and very small so they are likely to be smart and great indoors dogs. Definitely snugly and playful!

I was curious and Googled around and found your page and I want to take a moment to thank you for all of this wonderful information, pictures and videos. It is so nice that you took the time to put this together for the General Public. I have really found it very helpful. Thank you so much. I recently acquired a poodle from a friend who could no longer care for him. I am familiar with dogs in general because I’ve always owned one my whole life but I realize poodles are a bit different and require certain things. I am new to grooming and all of that sort of stuff LOL. My poodle’s name is toot toot and he is so precious. He is chocolate colored and I just gave him a bath last night and I do not know how to go about grooming him I wish there was a place I could put in a picture. Hi Barbara, for the most part, yes. However no dogs are truly hypo-allergenic. I would suggest heading to your local pound/pet rescue or breeder and see how you fare with the pups they have there as some people are ultra sensitive regardless of the dog’s coat.

I have done my research, I would like to buy a tea cup teddy bear. A female preferably. I have had a bad experience with a breeder I found online in the past. We bought a pure bred English bull, and he was from a puppy mill. We didn’t know that of course, but he was crazy and we had to give him to a friend after 2 years of trying. I don’t want that to happen again. How do I find a reputable breeder within driving distance, so that I can be sure they are good dogs from a good person? Hi Alicia, I’m so sorry to hear about your past experience. What an awful situation you were in. Make sure you do your homework on breeders and read as many reviews as possible. As you say, ideally visit the breeder so you can check they are legit. Please let me know where you are located and I’ll see if we can recommend a breeder.

Hi, We are a family with two girls (age 11 and 6) who are very gentle with animals. We have been considering dogs for several years and are ready to take the plunge as the girls are old enough and my husband has recently retired. Hi Charla, that’s great that you are ready to take the plunge with a new member to your family! You certainly won’t regret it. Also, it sounds like you’ve done your research and you know what you want, but importantly, you are not being too picky. When it comes to rescue dogs, honestly, the best approach is to go to the rescue with an open mind. You and your new found pooch will likely form a connection there and then, and it may just surprise you!

I have found my own ” teddy bear” looking companions via humane society. The first being schnauzer cross with bichon. Exceptional guy. Adoption fee under 90.00. It took months of watching web posting. He DOES have an allergy to chicken…now an 8 week old cross with toy poodle,papillon, and schi zu. Adopted her for 25.00. I think good start to speak with breeders,but huge fan of patience and adoption.

I’m looking for a Teddybear rescue group or organization that would make sure our 2 Teddybear’s are taken care of in the event of our death. Can anyone recommend a site or persons I can contact? This is for our Will and We must know they will be taken care of. There would be a fund that goes with them and especially if they stay together since we’ve had them since their adoption by us. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
